Company Overview
Since 1942, PennEngineering® has been a leader in the fastener industry. For more than 75 years, PEM®, the company's core brand, has been a recognized staple in the sheet metal fastening industry. Today, we continue to advance fastener design and manufacturing technologies to keep pace with market changes and challenges. Continuous investment in research and development, new product development and global strategic presence has enabled us to expand our solutions and engineering expertise. As our customers continue to benefit from "local access" based on a global presence, we continue to explore the fastener needs of nearly all industries, including electronics and computers, data/communications, medical, automotive, marine, aviation/aerospace and general manufacturing. For us, no challenge is too big or too small. With strong production and technical support in the United States, Europe and Asia, and a global network of authorized engineering representatives and distributors, PennEngineering® is always ready to provide you with timely and reliable solutions, no matter where you are. When KA Swanstrom founded PennEngineering® & Manufacturing Corp. in 1942, he had a revolutionary new product: a self-clinching fastener that could be easily installed and provided adequate support on thin sheet metal that could not be threaded. Swanstrom's creation began as four machines in a garage in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. As manufacturers and engineers realized the benefits of self-clinching fasteners, the simple workshop gave way to a modern production plant in Danboro, Pennsylvania. Self-clinching fasteners not only reduced assembly time, labor, weight and inventory, but also opened a new door for engineers and designers to explore new areas of industrial design involving thin metal. Wide acceptance in the industry led to the rapid mass production of self-clinching fasteners after World War II. As industry demand for ultra-thin and ultra-light metal fasteners increased, the company introduced production lines. Over the years, the original self-clinching fastener design has been refined to meet the needs of hundreds of new designs and applications.
