BLAGDON PUMP was founded in the early 1950s by George Blagdon and George Flynn. The company started out as a small engineering workshop supplying local coal fields. The company is based in Durham, a historic city in the northeast of England. Based on its understanding of the mining industry, BLAGDON diaphragm pumps believed that a simple pump was needed to remove moisture from coal seams. In 1979, Blagdon produced an air-operated diaphragm pump. Early versions were aluminum and cast iron for use in mines. These pumps were fairly primitive compared to today's models. In 1981, BLAGDON diaphragm pumps were sold to Terry Harrison, who owned a pump rental business. Terry invested heavily in the business, and due to expansion, the company moved to a 30,000 square meter factory in Washington, northeast England.
