What is a Pull Cord Switch?

A pull cord switch is a type of manual switch that is operated by pulling a cord. It consists of a switch mechanism enclosed in a housing and a cord that is attached to the switch actuator. When the cord is pulled, it activates the internal switch, either opening or closing an electrical circuit. This simple yet effective design allows for easy operation and provides a convenient way to control electrical devices from a distance or in situations where a traditional push - button or toggle switch may not be easily accessible.

Purpose of the Pull Cord Switch

Principle of the Pull Cord Switch

The principle of a pull cord switch is based on a mechanical switching mechanism. Inside the housing of the switch, there is a set of contacts that can be opened or closed. The cord is attached to a lever or actuator that is connected to these contacts. When the cord is pulled, the actuator moves, causing the contacts to change their state. In a normally - open (NO) pull cord switch, the contacts are open when the cord is in its resting position, and they close when the cord is pulled, completing the electrical circuit. In a normally - closed (NC) pull cord switch, the opposite is true: the contacts are closed in the resting position and open when the cord is pulled, interrupting the circuit.
